REFINERY GAS ANALYZER WITH VOLATILE SULFUR SPECIATION- AN INNOVATIVE AND EFFICIENT SOLUTION

Determining the composition of refinery gas and measurement of trace sulfur content is very crucial in Hydrocarbon Processing Industry gas chromatography applications. Trace amounts of volatile sulfurs present in gas streams can poison the catalyst used in processes, which can cost millions of dollars.

Shimadzu recently launched the highly sensitive Nexis SCD-2030 that is used in combination with the existing High-Speed Refinery Gas Analyzer for speciation and quantification of trace sulfur components. This complete system, which has four detectors operating simultaneously, is a very accurate, robust, and efficient solution complying with ASTM D7833, UOP 539, and ASTM D5504 methods.

NEW STRATEGY FOR GLYPHOSATE, GLUFOSINATE, AND AMPA QUANTIFICATION IN FOOD: IN-VIAL ADDITION OF PAIRING AGENT

Glyphosate and Glufosinate are phytosanitary products widely used as weed killers, especially in cereal and vegetable crops. This study presents a new analytical approach allowing their quantification and separation on reverse phase thanks to in-vial -addition of a pairing agent. This new strategy provides a method that allows to achieve good retention, separation, and sensibility. A rapid method is set up with 7 min run and easy sample preparation. This sensitivity allows their quantification below 50 µg/kg for fruits and 100 µg/kg whatever the matrix. This method shows good repeatability, yield extraction, and robustness.

The use of Shimadzu triple quadrupole gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry with its information-rich content and explicit confirmation has enabled us to obtain excellent results in food safety, environment monitoring and forensic toxicology. I am privileged for this and looking forward to continue my journey of mass spectrometry with Shimadzu as before with more enthusiasm and ambition.

The increasing public concern about pesticide contamination of food and the environment in recent years has increased the demand for broader and stricter pesticide monitoring. This requires an effective analytical technique for the simultaneous determination of pesticide residues to protect consumers and guarantee the safety of agricultural products. 

This study was aimed at determination of pesticide residues in cucumber using a GC-MS/MS with QuEChERS method in sample preparation. The use of Shimadzu triple quadrupole gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GCMS-TQ8040) with its information-rich library enabled excellent results to be obtained, thanks to its wonderful sensitivity and selectivity with helium carrier gas at a constant flow of 1mL/min. Pesticides were identified according to their retention times and target and qualifier ions, based on the peak area ratio of the targets to that of internal standard.
